Complications of coexisting chlamydial and gonococcal infections

Chlamydial infection often silently coexists with gonorrhea and may go undetected until complications, such as urethritis or pelvic inflammatory disease, occur. To avoid the sometimes serious consequences of these sequelae and to help break the chain of transmission to sexual partners, both diseases should be treated simultaneously. Dr Leu describes current methods of detecting chlamydial infections and reviews recommended treatment regimens.
