Acute life-threatening asthma

Therapy must be started at once in severe cases of acute asthma. As Dr Dellinger discusses, bronchodilators are often life-saving, but anti-inflammatory drugs are also necessary to relieve the chronic inflammation that is usually responsible for bronchospasm. Intubation and mechanical ventilation may be needed in some patients.
