As in adults, hypertension in infants and children usually causes no symptoms until complications arise. Therefore, a child's blood pressure should be routinely taken at yearly checkups. If the pressure is significantly elevated and cannot be controlled with such measures as salt restriction, weight reduction, and relaxation techniques, drug therapy should be considered.
