Septic shock

When patients fail to respond to conventional therapy

Patients in septic shock have a high rate of death. In some who fail to respond to conventional therapy with antibiotics, fluids, and dopamine, perfusion is reestablished when low-dose dopamine is administered in combination with norepinephrine. Dr Smally, an emergency department physician, explains how familiarity with this second-line therapy may be valuable to primary care physicians.
