With the increasing abuse of cocaine, including crack, in the past two decades, the relationship between such use and acute myocardial infarction is now well known. However, the exact triggering mechanism remains a mystery, and treatment recommendations vary. On the basis of their experience and a review of the literature, the authors of this article discuss the possible causes, clinical characteristics, and management of acute myocardial infarction following cocaine use.
