True or false: Bloating and fatty-food intolerance in patients with gallstones are generally caused by gallbladder disease. A careful study of existing reports indicates that the answer is usually “false.” The author discusses why the classic description of biliary colic is inaccurate and why the traditional belief that gallstones cause flatulent dyspepsia persists in spite of convincing evidence to the contrary.
