Aspirin sensitivity

A distressing reaction that is now often treatable

Aspirin-induced hypersensitivity affects a substantial number of people, including 20% or more of asthmatic patients. A dramatic flare of symptoms occurs after ingestion of aspirin or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, and symptoms can persist even after the agent is discontinued. Fortunately, aspirin desensitization, as described by the authors, now appears to be a treatment option.
