Arrhythmias and acute myocardial infarction

Intensive coronary care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, beta-blocker therapy, and thrombolytic therapy have all helped reduce the morbidity and mortality rates of acute myocardial infarction (MI). However, electrical complications continue to pose a major threat to patients' recovery. In this article, Drs Granrud and Vatterott discuss the etiology and treatment of arrhythmias associated with acute Ml as well as risk assessment for future ventricular tachycardia and sudden death.
