Chlamydia trachomatis infection, by far the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States, is a major public health problem. It often remains symptom-free, but the eventual outcome may be fertility problems in women and urethritis or epididymitis in men. Dr Potts details recent diagnostic advances as well as the latest recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control on screening for and treatment of the infection.
