Once an ingredient in Coca-Cola, cocaine is now known to be a potentially lethal drug. Persons who overdose are usually found dead, but treatment is possible for users with less severe reactions. Drs Lobi and Carbone describe the pharmacologic mechanisms and toxic effects of cocaine use and discuss appropriate management.
