The development of more advanced devices has made ambulatory blood pressure monitoring feasible for many hypertensive patients. Although ambulatory monitoring is not a substitute for conventional office measurement, it does have its place in diagnosis and management of hypertension. The author discusses the five indications for its use and explores its advantages and disadvantages.
