Giant cell arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica are thought to be closely related conditions because they share symptoms, occur in the same patient population, and can coexist in the same person. Because most patients present with symptoms of both disorders, diagnosis may be difficult. The authors discuss characteristic clinical and laboratory findings as well as pharmacologic management.
