What do you tell your heart disease patients when they ask about exercise? Considerable attention has been focused on its benefits and risks in people with and without heart disease. Although dramatic examples of sudden death in athletes often dominate the discussion, a strong case for regular dynamic exercise can be made. The authors discuss exercise in terms of types, hemodynamics, effects on the heart, safety, and benefits.
