Patients with both hypertension and type II diabetes present a special therapeutic challenge because of their increased risk for renal injury. In the following two articles, Drs Weir and Bakris discuss how a combination of nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic approaches can control systemic blood pressure and maintain adequate renal perfusion.
