Glucocorticoids must be used with extreme caution. They are very powerful on their own and can become even more so if taken in combination with drugs (eg, estrogens) or in the presence of conditions (eg, liver disease) that prolong drug clearance. Dr Cook explains properties of glucocorticoids and aspects of their administration that should be understood by all physicians who prescribe these agents.
