Foot wounds in diabetic patients

A comprehensive approach incorporating use of topical growth factors

Poor wound healing is a contributing cause in the majority of amputations in diabetic patients. Use of topical growth factors derived from a patient's own platelets is a new method of accelerating the healing of open wounds that is proving successful and preventing amputations. However, as Dr Keyser discusses, good healing is achieved only if all the factors associated with development and sustenance of the wounds are addressed.
