How to determine if the sphincter of Oddi is the cause

Patients who have undergone cholecystectomy are distressed when they find that they still have pain, but this is not an uncommon situation. One cause is dysmotility of the sphincter of Oddi, which delays biliary drainage into the duodenum. Dr Burton describes the testing required to establish the diagnosis as well as the treatment options.
