The risk of heatstroke during exertion in hot weather is well recognized. However, nonexertional heatstroke is also common in the elderly and persons taking certain medications. Immediate and appropriate management improves prognosis. In this article, Dr Delaney discusses the causes and manifestations of heatstroke and offers lifesaving strategies for management and prevention.
