A 48-year-old woman presents with a 2-week history of left-sided chest pain, which she describes as intermittently “stabbing” in nature one minute and “squeezing” the next. The pain is unrelated to respiration. Is it atypical chest pain or a sign of coronary artery disease? Dr Richards outlines an approach to identifying the source of chest pain and discusses characteristic manifestations of both ischemic and nonischemic pain.
