Fungi that rarely cause disease in immunocompetent persons may thrive in patients whose defenses are impaired by chemotherapy. Such infections are a threat to life in these already severely ill patients and require prompt diagnosis and effective management. The authors describe clinical manifestations of nine of the most frequently encountered orofacial fungal infections.
