Nutritional support in patients with inflammatory bowel disease

Because malnutrition is prevalent among patients with inflammatory bowel disease, nutritional support is an important adjunct to other management. Certain deficiencies are more common in patients with Crohn's disease than in those with ulcerative colitis, and no specific diet is appropriate for all patients. In this article, the authors discuss the advantages and disadvantages of parenteral, enteral, and oral nutrition in the treatment of patients with these diseases.
