Patients with mild pulmonary disease often have no disease-related sexual problems, but those with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma may suffer from both psychological and physical limitations. Thoughtful questioning of these patients may uncover sexual dysfunction that may be amenable to treatment. Preexisting sexual concerns will affect the individual's attitude or the couple's relationship. Any suggestions the physician makes must be given tactfully, respecting the moral and social customs of the pair.
