How to identify and treat patients at risk for recurrent cerebral ischemia

As the authors point out, cerebral ischemia begets cerebral ischemia. Thus, patients who have had an ischemic event must be considered at high risk for another. This article reviews methods for determining the type of stroke (ie, ischemic or hemorrhagic), information that is vital when deciding on treatment and prevention approaches. The authors also summarize results of recent studies on the efficacy of various treatment measures.
