Digitalis is widely used, primarily for congestive heart failure and various cardiac arrhythmias. Because this agent has a narrow therapeutic index, mild toxicity is not uncommon. Severe toxicity, however, is unusual and is life-threatening. In this article, Dr Krisanda focuses on current diagnosis and management of serious digitalis toxicity, with emphasis on the proper use of digoxin immune Fab (antigen-binding fragments).
