Are patients whose symptoms persist after antibiotic treatment of Lyme disease still infected? What symptoms require testing beyond routine serologic evaluation? When is intravenous administration of antibiotics prudent, and when is it required? Dr Rahn summarizes the current thinking on these questions and others. Although the optimal drug, dose, and duration of therapy have not been established for Lyme disease, he provides guidelines based on research studies and clinical experience.
