Hematopoietic growth factors

A promising future for use in bone marrow dysfunction

Recombinant DNA technology has led to the development of hematopoietic growth factors, which have proven effective in various disorders characterized by bone marrow dysfunction. These factors stimulate bone marrow cells, increasing proliferative and maturation activity. The authors describe properties of these agents, discuss which are commercially available and which are undergoing animal studies, and summarize their present and probable future roles in clinical medicine.
