Bladder cancer is relatively uncommon in the general population, but its prevalence increases with age and among persons who work with such carcinogens as dyes and leather. Effective screening methods do not exist for the general population, so diagnosis often depends on the alertness of the examining physician. The cure rate of bladder cancer is inversely proportional to the depth of invasion, and disease that has invaded the muscle requires aggressive therapy. Dr Rath summarizes identification, staging, and treatment of this disease.
