Although endometriosis is a benign condition, it causes menstrual pain and can lead to sterility if not treated. Clinical signs may be subtle, and laparoscopy is needed to positively identify the disease. Primary care physicians need to consider the diagnosis of endometriosis in patients who present with infertility, pelvic pain, and menstrual dysfunction.
