Patients who have had a cardiac event and are at high risk for another can benefit greatly from the various techniques available for diagnostic imaging. For example, imaging using infarct-avid agents can estimate the extent of damage from myocardial infarction, myocardial perfusion imaging can assess residual jeopardized myocardium, and two-dimensional echocardiography can provide clues to complications of infarction. Dr Bean discusses these techniques and others and their application for risk stratification.
