Elevated levels of one or more liver enzymes are commonly found in asymptomatic patients. Such findings may be important, because minimal elevation may be the only manifestation of significant hepatobiliary disease. A companion article, beginning on page 119, discusses clinical evaluation in asymptomatic patients.
