Use of cervical spine radiography in patients who have sustained blunt trauma should not be a knee-jerk response; rather, the need for imaging should be based on information obtained from careful history taking and examination of the patient. Dr Roberge discusses who should and should not have cervical spine radiography after blunt trauma and examines other factors in decision making, such as cost, radiation exposure, and fear of litigation.
