Rheumatic mitral stenosis

Because the incidence of rheumatic mitral stenosis in the United States is increasing, the condition should be considered in patients who have exertional dyspnea and pulmonary congestion. Atrial fibrillation in these patients may lead to heart failure, embolization, and stroke. Dr Feldman reviews diagnostic procedures and discusses the medical and surgical goals of management.
