Obesity, inactivity, smoking, hyperglycemia, and use of certain antihypertensive drugs all worsen insulin resistance. In this article, Dr Bell examines the implications of these factors in planning treatment regimens for patients with one or more chronic disorders associated with insulin resistance, such as hypertension and non-insulin-dependent diabetes.
