Elderly patients who for no immediately obvious reason lose weight, decline in physical and psychological function, and withdraw socially are said to have failure to thrive. Dr Egbert analyzes the factors that can contribute to this condition and offers advice on how to arrest the downward spiral in which these patients are caught.
