As many as 20% of postmenopausal women may have symptomatic genital prolapse, but often they do not report it because of embarrassment or a belief that it is a natural consequence of aging. Dr Davila discusses predisposing factors in prolapse, associated urinary dysfunction, and conservative treatment approaches. Special attention is paid to the renewed interest in an ancient device— vaginal pessaries.
