We, the authors, Editors and Publisher of The Professional Geographer have retracted the following article:

Kaique Brito Silva and Raul Reis Amorim, “A Geosystem Perspective in Landscape Archaeology Studies: Ancestors' Occupations in Ilhéus, Brazil,” The Professional Geographer 72 (2019), 139-151. doi: 10.1080/00330124.2019.1653771.

The article contains unauthorised use of data which undermines the validity of the reported findings. Since publication, it has become apparent the authors did not receive from the coordinator of the research project registered in the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) the necessary prior authorisation for archaeological and historical information reported in the article. The authors initially alerted the Editor and Publisher to this issue and the Editor and Publisher have agreed to retract the article to ensure the integrity of the scholarly record.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions.

The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as ‘Retracted.’
