Improving the Recorded Protocol

Abstract

The recording of protocols of student problem solving is briefly described and some of the problems arising in this approach, and the difficulties faced by the researcher, are discussed. A number of detailed improvements are suggested which can greatly increase the powerfulness of the feedback obtained from the making of recorded protocols, in return for a modest additional involvement from the researcher.
