The Evolution of Professional Practice at the Open University

Abstract

At the Open University, the work of educational technologists is going beyond the traditional approach. Individual practitioners have developed a variety of styles, including those characterized here as: the knowledge expert, the executive manager, the social‐analyst, and the specialist. These different styles of working are compared in terms of their practices, focuses, aims, reference groups and philosophies.
