Pages 160-165 | Published online: 03 Aug 2006

Abstract

Hearing‐impaired children in Iraq have been taught in a didactic style in well equipped classrooms. The new teaching method involved a resource‐based learning approach to teaching aspects of mathematics and science. The materials were put through field trials. A field trial involved the use of a picture language test in addition to attainment tests and observation. The paper describes the dramatic improvement in language for learners using the new method and looks at some of the implications.
