Educational Applications for Viewdata as a Tool for Information Retrieval

Abstract

Among the functions viewdata technology can serve is information retrieval in education. This function could be served by other technologies as well. In fact, in viewdata several technologies come together; viewdata is a manifestation of this tendency in microelectronics that will determine information retrieval and its educational effects in the future. Characteristics of viewdata are looked at with an educational eye. Then attention is given to information retrieval, especially to types of memories, methods for storing and cataloguing, and retrieval and information skills. These reflections are specified for education by looking at groups of. retrievers, organizational and instructional principles. The two approaches, that of viewdata and that of information retrieval, result in the statement of a number of requirements for viewdata as well as for education.
