Abstract
Abba Hillel Silver's address on August 30, 1943 was a rhetorical milestone in the efforts of American Zionism to consolidate Jewish opinion behind political efforts aimed at establishing a Jewish state. In seeking to avoid a split in the conference, speakers preceding Silver blunted the statehood issue.
