The multiple nature of reality in Pinter's the caretaker

Pages 86-96 | Published online: 05 Jun 2009

The Caretaker shows different “realities” existing for different characters, depending upon their individual emotional capacities. Change is impossible for Davies, who possesses a selflish, callous personality. He is devastated when his illusions break down. Aston and Mick, who are not so handicapped, are each able to grow and form more mature relationships after the breakdown of their illusions.
