Theoretical models in secondary ionic emission

Abstract

We examine various theoretical models of secondary ionic emission and try to show that now many connections clearly appear between this phenomenon and questions of interest in various fields of Physics. We discuss first the kinetic model which has been applied to pure targets (1969) and which can be extended to compounds by using the new ideas about correlation diagrams in asymmetric systems. We also discuss some “surface effects” models. The purpose of these calculations is to evaluate the probability that a conduction electron, strongly delocalized in the target, follows an emitted atom. A new model which uses the Anderson's description of the screening of a charged particle inside a metal is presented. A comparison between theoretical and experimental results is made, mainly for the kinetic model.
