Colloid production and precursor damage in heavily irradiated NaCl

Abstract

Results for electron irradiated NaCl at 150°C indicate the existence of a highly stable defect structure which is a precursor for colloid production and appears to act as a centre for colloid nucleation. Evidence from ionic conductivity, stored energy and positron capture suggests that divacancies rather than dislocations are involved.
