Abstract
Mossbauer emission studies of 57Co doped LiNb03 single crystals have been carried out. The non-appearance of anomalous 57Fe3+ in the Mossbauer spectra is interpreted in terms of the existence of fully occupied lithium vacancies and doubly ionized oxygen vacancies. The oxygen vacancies act as trap centres. It is suggested that Co2+ enters the lattice in lithium sites coupled with a lithium vacancy.
