Abstract
Gamma radiolysis of aqueous solutions (pH 5.0) of Fe(NTA)2 4− and FeEDTA2-in presence of N2O, Br− and 2-propanol revealed that the H2O2 and Br− oxidised Fe(II), and the H atom abstracted hydrogen from ligand, while the OH did both; this revealed no steric protection of metal centre in these compounds. The rate constants detemined in the competition kinetic study with 2-propanol for metal oxidation reaction are k[OH+Fe(NTA)2 4−]=4.1×109 M−1 s−1 and k(OH+FeEDTA2−)=6.5×109 M−1 S−1, and those for hydrogen abstraction are 1.2×109 and 1.4×109 M−1 s−1 respectively.
