Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby, b. 1930, former Labour Cabinet Minister, co-founder of the Social Democratic Party (SDP); and Bill Rodgers, Lord Rodgers of Quarry Bank, b. 1928, former Labour Cabinet Minister, co-founder of the SDP. Williams and Rodgers were two members of the original ‘gang of four’ senior politicians who broke away from the Labour Party in 1981. The SDP merged with the Liberal Party in 1988 to form the Liberal Democrats. Peter rejoined the Labour Party in 1994.
