Transformative Baptist Religious Education, Civic Participation, and Solidarity with the Poor

Pages 328-342 | Published online: 03 Jun 2013

Abstract

This article presents a progressive and prophetic Baptist religious education that engages the social crisis of poverty in the United States, a theological view that is grounded in the polity of the Progressive National Baptist Convention (PNBC), USA, constituted by progressive Baptist clergy between 1960 and 1961. In order for contemporary Baptist religious educators to address the challenges of poverty and democracy, they should adopt a progressive and prophetic paradigm of religious education.
