New Zealand-Israeli Relations - The Political and Economic Imperatives

Pages 461-482 | Published online: 25 Aug 2010

New Zealand's relations with Israel have been punctuated by periods of tension, with, since the late 1970s, a distinct pro-Palestine policy. A wish to pursue an independent foreign policy free from United States influence has been augmented by differences over nuclear weapons proliferation. The author analyses the fluctuations in relations from the period before the founding of Israel to the present search for a lasting solution to the Palestine problem.
