Genetic prediction of common multifactorial diseases

Pages 121-124 | Published online: 13 Apr 2010

Abstract

It is becoming possible, although not yet easy to identify genetic variation associated with predisposition to common diseases. This will certainly illuminate biochemical pathways perturbed in disease. It will probably also translate into tests to identify those at high risk of specific diseases, but whether this conversion into clinically useful predictive screening tools will be common, is more doubtful.
